The Gravedigger

Synopsis

In a barren valley filled with mist and bones, a wandering poet hears a monstrous voice. The encounter brings him to the threshold of another existence. By dawn, he will have become a gravedigger.

The project

Inspired by Gibran Khalil Gibran’s The Grave-Digger, the short film explores inner transformation through death, silence and rebirth. The project brings together sparse dialogue, an attentive soundscape and handcrafted visual effects.

Its visual research draws on the baroque, symbolism, myth and Caravaggio’s paintings. A creature embodied through a physical costume stands at the centre of the nocturnal encounter.
